Rev. Dr. Simon Pandey’s book, Christianity in Nepal: Unity in Diversity, was launched today ((26-Oct-2025)) at Tropical Island in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur. The book explains the history of Christians in Nepal, covering key events and the growth of churches across different time periods, according to Dr. Pandey.
The history of churches in Nepal began during the Malla period, continued through the Shah and Rana periods, and faced many struggles until democracy was established in 1950. Dr. Pandey highlighted the significant contributions of Pastor Ganga Prasad Pradhan during this time. After 1950, church growth became easier, but challenges and persecution persisted during the Panchayat era and beyond, as noted in the book.
Dr. Pandey said the book aims to inform the public about the true history of Christians in Nepal.
During the launch, Dr. Sundar Thapa, former Chairman of FNCN, called the book a milestone for the Nepali Christian community. Elder Dil Thapa, Chairman of Nepal Bible Society, praised the book for creatively presenting the truth about Nepali church history. Dr. Narayan Prasad Maharjan, former General Secretary of NCF Nepal, thanked Dr. Pandey for taking on the challenging task of writing this book.
Dr. Salahuddin Akhtar Siddiqui, Former Hon'ble Justice said the book will help not only Christians but also others understand Christians history in Nepal. Former National Human Rights Commission member Dr. KB Rokaya expressed hope that the book will support religious tolerance, noting the Christian community’s contributions to Nepali society.
Overall, the book covers the history, growth, and impact of the Christian community in Nepal, as shared by the author and speakers.
